Ahead of the proposed referendum on whether Iceland should open accession negotiations with the European Union, Paradigm invites you to a lively and informative debate in Silfurberg at Harpa on Sunday, 16 August, at 8:00 p.m.
Representatives of both sides will debate whether Iceland should begin accession negotiations with the European Union.
Arguing Yes:
Jónas Hagan and Hjálmar Vilhjálmsson, board members of the SJÁ movement, will make the case for a Yes vote.
Arguing No:
Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson and Diljá Mist Einarsdóttir, Members of Parliament for the Independence Party, will make the case for a No vote.
The aim of the evening is to shed clear light on the principal arguments on both sides and give the audience an opportunity to form an informed opinion before the referendum on 29 August.
What should Iceland expect from accession negotiations? What might Iceland gain, and what might the country stand to lose? Should Iceland enter negotiations simply to find out what may be on offer, or would the very decision to begin talks already amount to a political commitment?
