Paradigm presents a series of events titled The Journey of Ideas, aimed at providing insight into the ideological shifts taking place among individuals, as well as their causes and consequences.
The first event in the series features two young women who have each attracted considerable attention for their views: Hlédís Maren Guðmundsdóttir, a sociologist and columnist, and Iva Maren Adrichem, a lawyer and singer.
Both Hlédís and Iva have backgrounds in politics rooted in left-wing human rights activism. However, they have each raised critical questions about aspects of so-called “woke ideology” and have also defended freedom of expression in a manner traditionally associated with liberal thought—values that are now increasingly under pressure.
In her talk, Hlédís will discuss her ideological development, with a particular focus on her views on human rights and individual freedom.
In her presentation, Iva will reflect on her intellectual journey and clarify her positions on issues that have sparked public debate, especially her stance on gender-based rights and her critique of certain forms of marketization within the rights movements of vulnerable minority groups, as well as legislation intended to provide such groups with increased protection.
Following their talks, Hlédís and Iva will take part in a Q&A session, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions.
The event will take place at Fantasía, the event hall of Vinnustofa Kjarvals, offering a cozy and creative atmosphere in the heart of Reykjavík. Refreshments will be available at the bar, providing an ideal way to begin a Friday evening in the city center with an event designed to inspire reflection on life and the spirit of the times.
